Cape Town is a wonderful place for family holidays. With warm weather and open spaces, there’s plenty of opportunity for active kids to work off energy. Parents can relax and also have fun in the safe environment of beaches, nature reserves, historic estates and places that offer children’s activities.

Eating out with kids is easy in Cape Town. Many restaurants have a kiddies menu and many have an outdoor playing area, where active little ones can play and run around.

We’ll design any outing for your family that will ensure you have fun in a safe environment.

Here are some places and activities you might like to consider:

Beaches
The Cape Peninsula is surrounded by beaches which offer many opportunities for family outings. All along the coast there are safe beaches for toddlers and young ones, with tidal pools to swim in and rock pools to explore. At Boulders Beach, there’s the unique chance to sit next to penguins or swim in amongst them in a sheltered bay.

Some beaches offer adjoining fun activities like waterslides, putt putt (mini golf) and a promenade where you can push a pram or kids can roller blade. And let’s not forget Cape Town’s ice cream culture; you can get hooked on a fresh mango or litchi sorbet or a twirly soft serve vanilla cone dipped in chocolate.

Outdoors Picnic
Our Botanical Garden, Kirstenbosch, is a must for families. It has huge lawns for children to play on, an extensive network of walkways and clear mountain streams to paddle in. It’s great for picnics, but you can also enjoy a meal at a restaurant.

All our Wine Estates are in beautiful settings; typically there’s a historic homestead surrounded by lawns and trees. Many offer picnics on their shaded lawns, where parents can relax and sip cool white wine, while young ones run around.

Another great outing for families with small children is a farmyard park where kids can play and interact with animals. They all offer the possibility to sit outdoors and have a snack or meal. Also, you might find a Snake Park and activities like camel or pony rides.

Amusement Parks, Animals
Gemstones: Search through a sea of tumbled semi-precious stones and take your favourite ones home.

Planetarium: Under 10’s are also catered for with shows such as the Twinkle Show and Davy and the Dinosaur.

Bird Park: Africa’s largest bird Park with walk-through enclosures, where the cheeky squirrel monkeys like to sit on your shoulder.

Two Oceans Aquarium: It’s world renowned and should be top of your list of Cape Town things to do. In addition to the fantastic displays, it has a touch pool, puppet shows and other activities for kids.

Teen Cool

There’s plenty for teenagers to do in Cape Town. Check out our Wildlife Ecology, Science Discovery and Adventure Sport Tour pages for activities to fulfill your wildest dreams.

Cool Places to Hangout

Beaches

For teens who want to experience Cape Town’s social scene, we can show you some hot spots, especially come summer vacation time.

There are beaches where teens gather and wherever the surf is happening, you’ll find Cape Town’s teenagers.

Café Culture
There are cool sidewalk cafés and trendy restaurants and places to listen to great music like Kwaito, rap and reggae and all that jazz. But bear in mind that the legal drinking age is 18, so you’ll have to stick with orange juice if you’re not there yet.

Other activities Teens in Cape Town might like to consider…..

Shopping: There’s an amazing variety of places to shop from street markets to shopping malls. You’ll find fantastic African-inspired clothes as well as all the leading brands at very good prices.

Language School: A great way and place for foreigners to learn English, Afrikaans and other languages too.
